Evidence 1: EDT 674 Wiki Page~ Review of Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works

Rationale 1: During EDT 674, I was able to learn a wide range of strategies to promote cooperation and meaningful learning experiences while using technology in the classroom. As part of this class, I developed a Wiki page to review and present key components from the first chapter of Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works, by Pitler, Hubbell, Kuhn, and Malenoski. This book was very useful to me in suggesting ways for me to set objectives, learn strategies to help student acquire and integrate learning, as well as learn strategies to provide evidence of student learning while using technology. The book also presented information on helping students practice, review and applying learning.
By developing the Wiki page and reviewing Wiki pages from my colleagues, I was able to solidify what I learned from the book in order to make the strategies become and effective part of my teaching. This information has been extremely valuable to me in helping to incorporate technology into my classroom on a daily basis. I am able to use the strategies to have an effective and positive classroom environment. Students are more focused and able to apply their learning as a result of these strategies.

5.K.4 The teacher understands the principles of effective classroom management and can use a range of strategies to promote routines and positive relationships, cooperation, and purposeful learning in the classroom.

The Wiki page that I developed gave specific strategies for setting objectives. By setting well-defined objectives, students’ expectations are very clear and the stage for the routine is set. This has been very useful in managing my classroom effectively.

5.S.4 The teacher maximizes the amount of class time spent in learning by creating expectations and processes for communication and behavior along with a physical setting conducive to classroom goals.

Another effective strategy that I have used with teaching technology is to give the students a detailed timeline. This has helped students to manage their time and stay on track to ensure technology projects are finished in a timely manner. Many of the other strategies from the book have also been used to help establish clear routines and cooperation among students.

5.D.4 The teacher recognizes the value of intrinsic motivation to students’ life-long growth and learning.

Through the use of technology, students are easily motivated to learn. By applying the strategies from Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works, students are not restricted in their learning yet guided in an orderly fashion. The more they learn through self-discovery, the more they want to learn. Having the ability to do this, students are driven to be life-long learners.
